Dames & Ladies and a couple of girls

Decided to do a few grown up girl portraits this weekend and of course couldn't resist the doll faced girls. The last one is a portrait of my daughter in her favorite shirt.

What I wouldn't give for a few stacks of...

Today is the day I really crave pancakes. Usually that happens to me on a Saturday, but I don't think I can wait quite that long...

Attack of the Hello Kitties

You would think my day job as a toy designer would be fun, especially being surrounded by adorable Hello Kitties, but on closer look, these evil cats and their beady eyes haunt my dreams! It is hard to find inspiration at work but soon, I will do a "self portrait with Hello Kitty swarm".

Whack Painting

Most of the time I have to paint at night after the kids are in bed. Since I have been so low on free time I tried to paint during the day with my kids around and this is the result. It didn't help that I kept being told that
I was "painting it all wrong".

(ps: this was supposed to be a painting of Hello Kitty pink glitter nail polish.)

Painting with Paint

I started painting again last week. With actual paint! I found it totally unacceptable that I have been working so much on the computer (those nasty 12 hour days at my day job) and decided to do some lil' paintings the old fashioned way. I'm going to make it a regular habit, try and fit in some time to pick up a paint brush and push some paint around! I actually started this practice in 2008 where I would just paint quite ordinary everyday stuff, in a loose and expressive way. I would limit the painting time to about an hour and force myself to stop. The process is not to mimmick reality and overdo the detail but rather see the object in a different way and paint an impression of it. It is a really eye-opening zen like process for painters like me who tend to work and rework a painting until it looked "perfect". Well here is the first of the new stuff. I will be posting more paintings from 2008 and perhaps after I get my creative mojo on, will get back to Dollface LaLa doodles.

PS: this Orange Crush bottle has been sitting near my desk (waiting to be painted) for the last 2 years!

Been Busy

Don't know if you noticed but I've been on a blogging hiatus. Just been working long hours for the man and have no time to do much yappin here, but don't worry, I am dreaming up some new doodles as we speak. I hope I can actually get to doodlin' instead of fantasizing, but for now I just want to put in a little note to explain my absence, which is that my day job as a designer has been stealing all my creative mojo...soon I will find my way back to LaLaLand, I swear!

(I miss working on my own artwork)

Bad

Instead of apologizing for not keeping up the blog, let me tell you why I have been MIA and not blogging when I should be.
• Spilled milk on the keyboard and some keys are not functional. Too lazy to get a new one
• Falling asleep at 9:30 pm most nights exhausted with my day clothes on usually jeans t shirt and jacket
• Lost track of time, wasnt it just summer?
• Too cold to type
• Actually working at work and not able to work on what I rather be working on
• addicted to N.Y.Z, a zombie shooting game on my iphone
• surfing the net for the latest in D.I.Y canning

Not very impressive excuses I know.

My new job at the Toy Factory

I must apologize for my infrequent blogging as of late! I started a new day job designing at a Toy Company! Mainly graphic design and some product development. It is quite fun to be surrounded by toys all day (not mention having Hello Kitty products all over my desk,a girl's dream come true!). Once I get a hang of my new schedule I can figure out how this full time working and Etsying will turn out! Even though I am surrounded by dolls it ain't MY dollfaces and I do miss them mischievous eyes! I hope to do some new drawings soon!

American Dollface

American Pug

Hope all you guys and dolls had a wonderfilled 4th of July! I had a yummy weekend full of lemon cake, chocolate chip cookies, cupcakes, hot dogs (lots of em), sodas, chips, late nights and ice-cream! The parade and the fireworks weren't bad either!

My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

A Disclaimer

This Blog is not about drab colours and boring grown up concerns. This is a world of pinks...lots of pinks and sickeningly sweet concoctions and confections. If you are on a sugarless diet I must urge you to exit. This is a girlie world of big eyes and sweet doll faces so if you are into snips and snails and puppy dog tails then this isn't the place for you.
Sandee Rose is about eternal childishness and cupcakes, tea parties and chocolate. If you want to still enter then...

You have been warned.
